Two local private schools accommodate homeschool students in order to provide them with academic and extracurricular opportunities they may not otherwise have. Below are the basic answers to the most frequently asked questions the schools receive. We've also provided links to their websites and an email contact for their academic deans. Enrollment CBA - initial registration is in February. Students must be able to have a flexible schedule to work around chapel days. Tuition is prorated and includes hardbound texts, but consumable materials require an extra fee. A handbook is available from the office with school policies and dress code. CCA - openings for part-time students begin to be filled August 1. K-5 students are required to attend half-time minimum to deal with the elementary classroom schedule and are charged 60% tuition. 6-12 student tuition is based upon the number of classes taken (i.e. one class=1/7 tuition). HCA - Due to individualized programming, HCA enrolls new students grades 2-12 into their year-round schedule at any time. Students annually attend 180 days of class from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm. Tuition is not pro-rated but includes all curriculum fees. Classes CBA - offers Spanish and French foreign languages for high school students; BJUP science, ABeka history and language arts, and McDougal Littell math; choir, handbells, band, drama and speech. Elementary students follow the ABeka curriculum. CBA is also partnering with HCC to offer Accelerated College Enrollment (ACE) classes which are part of IAI. CCA- offers Spanish, German, and Greek foreign languages; Scott Forsman science is used for elementary grades and a variety of texts for high school science. Saxon math is used throughout. P.E. is available for Jr. High and High School part-time students, but not for elementary. A Winter-term is also available. HCA - Using the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum, HCA is unable to take students on a class-by-class basis at this time. Rosetta Stone is used for foreign language courses. Sports CBA - offers boys and girls sports for Jr. High and High School students for a $35-$50 fee. Sports include soccer, basketball, baseball, golf and volleyball. IHSA is currently reviewing CBA's status which will determine the number of classes a part-time student must take in order to participate. CCA - As part of IESA and IHSA, boys and girls in Jr. High or High School are required to be enrolled in four class hours. Sports include basketball, track and volleyball. HCA - PE is offered to students attending HCA; however, the school has not yet developed a sports program. Testing CBA - allows homeschool students to participate in scheduled standardized testing as space allows. The Stanford Achievment Test, including the Bible portion, is given on a timed schedule in mid-April (registrtation due by March 1) to K-9th students for a nominal fee. A $15 fee is required for the PLAN test, a practice ACT for Sophomores, and for the PSAT, a practice SAT and NMSQT for Juniors. Both are given in mid-October, but registration is requested by the end of May. Students can call for available space until September 30. CCA - Along with the cost of the test, an additional fee of $50 is required for any of the tests given at CCA. 1st-8th students are given the Stanford Achievement Test on a timed schedule. The PLAN for Sophomores and PSAT for Juniors are given in November and October respectively; registration is due by September 1. Some AP tests are given for the AP fee of $85. Call the school by January 15, to see what tests are available and to register. HCA - Currently, only the required diagnostic test for admission into the ACE program is offered for a $20 fee. | |||
