DULCIMER LESSONS

The hammered dulcimer is an instrument of ancient origins and has a lovely, harp-like sound. It is the most logically arranged instrument to play and is not difficult to learn as the student does not need to ‘make’ notes such as violin, guitar etc. Music is made by striking the metal strings with small mallets, or hammers.

Maureen Barnes offers 45-minute lessons in her southwest Bloomington home for $20. She has an instrument available to rent for beginners. Her husband, Brian, also offers mountain dulcimer lessons and rentals.

For lessons, contact the Barnes at dulcimergal98@yahoo.com or call 309-530-0997.
VIOLIN

Laura Otto has been teaching violin lessons for 20+ years and is a home school mom of 4 children. Laura has a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance from Bradley University and has done graduate work at Illinois State University. In addition to teaching, Laura has performed with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra and Opera Illinois Orchestra. She has also participated in music festivals in Quebec, Kansas, and Indiana.

Her students range in age from 5 through college and several have served as concert master of the Central Illinois Youth Symphonies. Violin lessons are taught at her home in Congerville and at Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria.
