Various opportunities are available for families seeking art instruction for their chilren. Art Workshop, Fine Arts Instruction and Immanuel Bible Foundation Art Classes are specifically designed for homeschool families, but there are also several local organizations that offer classes to children in our community periodically throughout the year. If you know of additional resources to add to this page, please e-mail us.
We are a group that meets each week in a workshop format to explore and experiment with watercolor, acrylic, sketching and pastels, etc. Students are ages 7 to adult. Art history and techniques are taught as they are encountered for a more lasting retention of those details.
Workshop sessions meet in Bloomington on Fridays during the school year and Tuesdays through the summer months. The time is structured to accomodate a Jr. session (children under 10) from 1:00 pm-2:00 pm and Sr. sessions (persons 10 and over) from 1:00-2:30 pm. Currently Jr. students pay $7 only on the days they attend; Sr. students pay $8. There is no committment to attend and you only pay when you do attend. Visit the website to see what supplies are needed for each medium, supplies can be purchased by you or Betty will purchase them for you. The group, which meets at Bible Baptist Church on Four Seasons Road, is led by Betty Broadfield. She has been an art teacher for over 20 years and has her degree from Illinois State University. Betty was a 4H leader and home school mom. Our class has an outstanding record of award winning sketches and paintings on the local, state and nationwide levels For more information, visit the Breezy Bluff website or email Betty.

Suellen Goken, a retired art teacher is offering art classes to home school children at Immanuel Bible Foundation. Suellen believes that all children are born with a desire to create. In order for a child to fully develop his/her creative abilities, he/she needs to be encouraged and vailidated. Suellen takes the responsibility to encourage each child while teaching the fundamentals of art so that the student can develop to his/her full artistic potential.
During the class, students will experience several areas of two-dimensional art, (drawing, charcoal, watercolor, pastels, etc.) This class is offered to children who are at least in second grade, or seven years, through high school. High school students will work more independtly than younger students, but still with teacher direction.
Two six week sessions will be offered. The first session will meet on Wednesdays from September 3rd through October 8th, while the second session will meet on Wednesdays from October 29th through December 3rd. Both sessions will focus on basic two-dimensional art. Due to increased interest, an afternoon class will be offered for both sessions. Participants can sign up for the morning class from 10:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. or the afternoon class from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Each class will be limited to 12 students.
All classes will be held at the Immanuel Bible Foundation, located in the Broadview Mansion, 1301 S. Fell Ave., Normal, Il. The cost of the classes is: $110.00 per student, per session for the first child in a family, and an additional $75.00 per child for each additional child in a family. For the use of the mansion, a facility fee of $10.00 per child is due upon sign up. Students may be responsible for supplies, however the supplies should not be very costly. The instructor has been able to provide most of the supplies in the past.
For further information please contact Suellen Goken at 309-662-4429, or by e-mail.
